Action
Piece for 2 voices, images created with carbon dust on glass and residual tone.
Approximate duration: 8 minutes
- A column of smoke rises in anger from an oil exploration platform in the Gulf of Mexico,
- A huge detonation of gunpowder blows up a hill in Zacatecas and
- A clandestine grave, an unnamed hole in some part of this republic.
Three images made with carbon powder on glass are mounted on steel structures.
Two singers stand in front of the images on opposite walls. The third image (the grave) is in the middle, alone.
The two voices begin to emit sustained tones at a very low volume that little by little becomes more present and louder. in creccendo, turning her gesture more and more violent, the singers are closer making the crystals vibrate and destroying the charcoal images.
At the same time, a third frequency, a third perceptible voice, thins space and perception. This voice is generated by the collision of the two tones emitted when finding their harmonic; the psychoacoustic phenomenon known as residual tone and explained through the fundamental phenomenon missing (fundamental absence), is related to the non-linear constitution of the human inner ear.
When the images have been destroyed the two women leave the room in silence.
